I am with Animal Friends for our Tibetan Terrier and 2 moggies. Dog 15, cats 12.

They have just stopped doing multi-animal discount, £30 for the dog with only half of claim paid and £100 excess. Cats are about £30 for the 2 can't remember the terms.

Anyone tips on alternative insurers. Dog was attacked last year and had a wound in her mouth, insurers wouldn't touch it as it was dental work.

They are generally still good rates.

My cats (she is a Maine coon) went up to £50/month when she turned 13 with £115 excess or 20% of the bill whichever was more!! I cancelled it, she had had ins all her life till then.

My two dogs are 5 & 3 are already £40 each and £100 excess though that is cover for life so no partial cover of claims like you have mentioned.

I am not sue you will find much better than you are already paying.

Having said that you could try PDSA ins. I was tempted to swap to them for my cat but she has a few health issues so would have a lot of things excluded so decided against it in the end but if I recall their prices were reasonable.

BTW that was piss poor of your ins Co re the mouth, that was trauma, injury induced and should have been covered. Did your vets not contest it?!

She was attacked by another dog, cut gum. Dental work not covered. Other party paid in full thank goodness.

PDSA coming up at £93, so our quote seems reasonable albeit with the 50% payout.

Have to say getting increasingly brassed off with Pet plan taking the piss on premium increases. 17.6% last year, 16% this year, trying to blame increase in IPT as reason, which is £50 of the increase since policy inception, they refuse to discuss any details of reasons for the remaining £300 increases. Refuse to discuss medical history of the 4 year old dog. How much will it be in 5/6 years time? Not answering nor returning calls either.

Getting close to sacking them off next renewal and self insuring.

I decided to self insure with the 12 year old cats, they don't go near a road ever and p*ss in the house so if they get something dodgy its a one way ticket. Wife refused to cancel dog insurance seems a bit more attached to it.

FiF worth shopping around?

That's the vet's advice, looking at his medical record they see no reason for very close to a 700 quid a year premium for a four year old, with not a single claim which could be construed by another insurer as a pre existing condition. Obviously a discussion would need to be held about that.

The only thing that delays self insuring, apart from waiting for the current year contract to expire, whilst is there is no issue of money for illnesses, except if a condition materialised which needs life long care and medication. 5 years of 4 grand a year soon adds up, just to pick numbers at random. The vet has indicated that they have clients who claim thousands per year but with lower premiums, we have direct experience of a much older dog with a long standing issue with virtually identical premium.

What has totally pissed me off with PetPlan is how they have treated the questions raised, their own agent expressed surprise at the level of increases, indicated they have a technical pricing team who can look at these cases, but in reality they have completely failed to produce the information they have on record about us so it can be checked, refuse to discuss so we can understand the reasons why, when we check out independently, the validity of the cookie cutter generic excuses just doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Their customer agent suggested we should raise a complaint, he registered it, but their complaints officer has resolutely refused to communicate, ie not answering calls, not returning calls, the complaint office have not heard one word of my side of things, but the complaint decision is, suck it up or fk off, more or less.
