A mouse is using my bird feeder

I've had rats on mine.
We had rats on ours as well, despite me trying to convince the wife they were just big mice. Then the neighbours cat discovered we had rats on the bird feeder.
Now the cat spends the majority of the day in our garden watching the bird feeder and i've not seen a living rat since (just 15 or so dead ones the cat leaves behind)
At my last house I had a first floor balcony, right outside my study, and I could sit at my desk, open the French Windows and enjoy a view of several miles of countryside while I was at work.
I decided to rig up a bird feeder strapped onto the balcony railing, so it was only about six feet from where I was sitting. There were loads of birds, being on the very edge of town, with fields and woods around - I counted over 40 species either in or from my garden. It was nothing unusual to look round and see a woodpecker at the feeder.
One day, I spotted a rat shinning up the metal pole of the feeder, just like a human would shin up a lamp post, deliberately making his way towards the fat balls with a most determined look on his face. It was, as you say, a 'good effort' and I could only admire him.
