Gary, one of my many cats, had his annual check up today.

He's fine apart from a little tooth decay/tartar. The vet suggested I clean his teeth with some cat toothpaste and a little brush.

This is likely to involve lacerations and blood loss on my part, so any suggestions for something he could eat to achieve much the same result?

Feed him raw? Is he a house cat?

It used to be my task to de-cack the teeth of a friend's cat. She provided the tooth cleaner and cat, I provided the labour and one of those padded headset bags I'd bought at a US uniform store. It was tough and well-padded, with a zipped top.

Procedure was to open the bag fully, then 'encourage' the cat inside, quickly zipping up the top so that only the cat's head poked out - the thrashing legs and claws remained safely inside. Not too hard to open its jaws and it couldn't grab and bite - it just yowled and growled with fury whilst the cleaning took place. Then hold the bag about a foot or so off the ground, turn it upside down and quickly undo the zip. Cat couldn't take a passing swipe as it needed to land on all fours!

Oddly enough, it was always glad to see me - and hadn't connected the sight of the headset bag with the ignominy to follow....

Can you feed him some chicken wings to gnaw on? Does he hunt?

All of my cats are hunters, sometimes the lounge looks like the killing fields in the morning....

I presume you mean raw chicken wings?

You never know, you might be surprised... biglaugh

A remember a colleague telling me of the time she came home to find her 12 year old daughter bathing one of the cats in the kitchen sink... apparently it was surprisingly co-operative, although looked a little pissed off hehe

Don’t they all?
I’d suggest a toned down taser, a padded vice, chain mail or leather
gauntlets, (just in case), and only then try the mini cat toothbrush..
