So today’s been an utterly st day. Autumn was taken in to the vets for a routine check up, but they identified that she was anaemic, so took her in for tests. Turned out that she was suffering from an aggressive form of cancer in her spleen that was causing internal bleeding. The vet said they could operate, but that in all likelihood she’d have a maximum of 3 months before the cancer and bleeding came back.
Making the decision to say goodbye was the hardest Ive ever had to face. She wasn’t quite 10 (birthday on Saturday, bless her). Farewell Autumn, you’ll be so missed.

I am so very sorry. What a beautiful girl she was.

I have lost two dogs to the same thing, so can understand what you're going through. Absolutely horrible.

RIP Autumn.

Thanks Moorx. Much appreciated. I’m sure she was no more lovely than any other hound, but she was mine!

Sad day for you, never nice and hard to deal with more sometimes than humans!

I feel for you.

10 years of shared fond memories and the knowledge of the pain you spared your best friend towards the end of a good life. If she could re-run her time here I bet there aren't many things she would change about it looking back? Rest in peace knowing you were loved. Nothing else to add, thoughts are with you.

She looks dignified and content in your photograph.

Near on 10 years of a full, happy life well spent by the sentiment in your post and a lot of good times to be thankful for and to remember (on both sides I believe) during these sad times.

Thoughts are with you.

So sad to read this.

She looked a lovely, gentle dog.

The shock must be awful but at least she didn’t suffer.

RIP Autumn

I know your pain. It is hard to explain to non dog owners. I lost Kesh, my 18 year old best pal 4 weeks ago. Although we were lucky enough to have the vet come to our home whilst he lay in front of a roaring fire. I'd known it was time for a few weeks but had selfishly put it off. My how I cried. He has been with us half of my adult life. It is such a privilege to share your life with them. Such beautiful, loyal friends. Gone to the magic woods as I tell my young boys. Bless them all.

Everybody thinks they have the best dog in the world, and they're all right.

Sorry for your loss, been just over a year for us & the pain has eased but we still miss him badly.

What a terrible shock frown.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful girl.

I can tell you that you made absolutely the right decision, aggressive tumours in the spleen are likely to have already seeded in eg the liver and the survival rate post surgery is usually nearer 6 weeks than 12 weeks.

I would have made the same (but never easy) decision.

Take care, in time your memories will bring a smile, not tears but it takes time.

Thank you. That does help. I’ve spent most of last night and today wondering if I had made the right decision. I really hope I did, because it was the hardest one I’ve ever had to make!

Thank you. I’ve shed lots of tears since yesterday, I’m not ashamed to say!

Very sorry to hear this, how awful.

I lost a Greyhound a few years ago and it was very sad when the vet told us that it was time... My late Wife and i were in bits for ages. The house was so quiet that we took on another rescue Greyhound about a month later..

So sorry for your loss.

Her soul is with you now and always, she will return to you again in time.

(I lost a cat yesterday so this touched a nerve to say the least)
