We have a blue tit nest in a box right in front of our kitchen window. It's been great watching then come and go. This morning though there was a a parent, just hanging out the box, not moving. I went to investigate and sadly this parent had died. I removed the poor guy/girl, but have already yet to see the other parent return to the nest, despite watching for periods of 15 mins or so without a break throughout the day.

I have called the rspca who originally said they were sending a guy around this afternoon, but just got a call from him saying he doesn't want to take them away if there is a parent still feeding and will call back tomorrow.

I feel a little disappointed - I'm pretty sure there is no parent as I've been paying as close attention as I can and haven't seen any bird visit, but in the last few weeks would see them by accident just when I'm washing up/making lunch etc. I'm also pretty sure if there is no parent they will be very dead by tomorrow, if they haven't already died.

It's very very tempting to try and feed them but as the rspca guy said, if there is a parent this may well cause them to disregard the nest. Tbh I fear they will already be gone frown

In these temperatures there's a good chance they've already perished.

Keep an eye but don't interfere until the RSPCA person does. It would be a criminal offence to interfere!

Nature is like that, I'm afraid. You don't know what killed the parent(s), though, may have been that the lot of them had something nasty.

RSPCA more interested in cruelty than suffering - they'd have prioritised it if there had been someone to prosecute.
