Not seen one for a long time then almost stepped on this little one while walking in the forest last evening...

My pond has been teeming with them in recent years, although I haven’t seen any for a couple of weeks now so I think they’ve left the water for the year now. I reckon there must have been at least a hundred or so. Haven’t yet seen any larvae, but hopefully they’ll appear shortly. Very cool creatures!

Noticed one in the garden the other day, scuttled into some damp and shady undergrowth when disturbed. I think it was one of these though, I didn't get a very clear view.
