Gecko knowledge reqd
Discussion
The missus and I are thinking about getting a gecko in the next 6 months or so.
I've had tropical fish and we both grew up with various family pets, but neither have kept lizards before.
I know a little about geckos as an ex had one, but my knowledge is sparse.
In terms of ease of care, are leopard geckos still the go-to?
Is the lighting/heating particularly impactful on electricity bills?
Any other knowledge for a newbie appreciated!

I have just got myself a Crested Gecko this weekend and they are great beginner reptiles.
They thrive at temperatures of around 24-26 C which is around room temperature most of the year depending on how tight you are with your heating in the winter!
They are also OK eating a Crested Gecko ready made diet exclusively which is a powder you can get from most pet stores and you just mix it with water. I use Repashy but there are other brands out there. This is good for people who dont like bugs living in the house (my Mrs included)
They are a relativley small Gecko which usually grows to around 8 inches in total if it keeps its tail.
They are relatively inexpensive to buy and maintain, my Gecko was £45 and the full set up was £125 in total for an Exo Terra Vivarium, substrate, hides, vines, UV lamp and light canopy.
I have had 10 reptiles in total now and Crested Geckos are truly beautful animals with a great temperament. My thread titled "Any Crested Gecko Keepers Here" can be seen a few threads down and there is a picture of my Gecko there also.

You're welcome.
The crickets can be a right pain, used to find them in the house all the time and like you said, they can be pretty noisy!
The leopard gecko you mentioned in your original post is also a good starter lizard, the actual gecko should be a similar price to a Crested but the set up tends to be more as they are larger needing more floor space and the cost of heating the enclosure can cost a fair bit too.
Just have a good read up and see what's best for you.
