MILs yorkie has been vomiting black stuff over the last week, seems to be every couple of days or so. Otherwise seems well, no dietary changes, he has sachets of wet food, and always been a picky eater, often not finishing his meal.

MIL is not very forthcoming with info (it's like pulling teeth actually) but we'll be going round today. She's reluctant to take him to the vet but I'm thinking he ought to go, maybe a stomach ulcer or something that's easily treatable.

Anything to suggest? I can check the colour of his gums and stuff, is it worth restricting his diet for a couple of days?

Definitely vet. That colour vomit is not OK and needs checking out especially as it has been going on several days already.

Sorry your mil is reluctant to go (I assume cost) but I don't think there is a choice this time.

I thought the same about colour of vomit frown
Maybe MiL doesn't want to take dog to vet, (avoiding what may be wrong?)

Thanks

I'm just back, seems he had some black vomit last week. She say's the vomit last night wasn't black but she won't/can't describe it. If you press her she just get's vacant and changes the subject.

The not wanting to go to the vet thing isn't cost (I don't think)

Anyway she won't let him go so that's that, seemed perky enough so we'll keep an eye on him.

My Yorkie was having issues with vomiting and diarrhoea on and off over a couple of weeks. No black stuff, just bile. Took him the vets and turns out he has pancreatitis. Under control now as he's on a low fat diet. If it goes unchecked it could eventually be fatal.

He seems okay now, lively enough yesterday and no more vomiting.

Looks like 2 occasions, 1st one (worryingly) black, 2nd a few days later just a bit of bile.

Good to know, hopefully not as bad as first thought. But if episodes become more frequent then checks for eg Pancreatitis would be useful. Let's hope it doesn't happen again though!

Does she feed him lots of treat's off her plate? I had to cut out giving my lad sausages and the like. It's tough as he still sits next to me expecting tit bits but at least there's no more upset tummy.

He got worse over the weekend so went to the vets.

Not good news looks like kidneys are packing up, we have an appointment tomorrow morning just trying to understand the results and possible treatment.

Mostly in the normal ranges except these
UREA= 46.4 mmo1/L (normal range 2.5-9.6)
AMYL=1921 U/L (normal range 500-1500)
CREA= 962 umo 1/L (normal range 44-159)

At the bottom of the test results 'WARNING: TEMP WAS OUT OF RANGE AT THE TEST END. TEMP WAS=37.4' Not sure what this means.

The vets prognosis wasn't very hopeful. The only treatment would be 24hr on fluids to stabilise and establish some kidney function. If he responds to this, then further treatment and low protein diet. May give the wee fella a few more months.

MIL is in bits. Not sure what to do TBH.

The lads had a little chicken and perked up now!

Thanks but I'm not too confident.

MIL's now 85 so probably her last pet.
