As the title suggests we’ve sprung a leak.
Or rather my puppy has!
For a few days he’s been having some liquid issues from his privates.
He’s licking himself more than normal.
He also seems miserable and grumbling.
I called the vet but they just said it might be normal for him and not much else really.
I’ve searched online but is this pretty standard in dog maturity?
He’s nearly 9 months and a golden retriever
We came back from a beach holiday last weekend so we wondered if he was a little down in the dumps from missing his holibobs but I’m not sure.
I’ve never had a dog before, only cats, and their happy as long as they have food...
So. Anyone had this before? Is there anything we can do to help him? I’ve already trimmed around the area as he was getting a lot in his fur.
I hate seeing him like he is.

Seems I cant call him a puppy anymore.
He's going through puberty.
Was worth taking him in though as they gave him a good check over and said hes in good health and weighing in at about 35kg.
I've been having a read up on adolescence in dogs and looks like we're in for a few months of grumps and disobedience..

Sorry only just seen this. I would have said it sounds like him reaching maturity but as he was acting a bit uncomfortable then get him checked as licking and excess discharge could cause a uti so it was right to have him checked over.
Was he definitely 35kg? That is big for his age for his breed (and I am not saying he is overweight by this). Just watch he isn't growing too fast as it will increase joint issues known in his breed. Not wanting to panic, just be observant. Were his parents big as he won't be full grown til he is about 15 months and male adults are usually around 30-34kg as adults.

Hi, no problem! thanks for replying
He went on the scales so seems correct, husband said around 35kg. Hes always been big - massive head and feet.
His dad and his dads side are quite large and his mum wasn't petite.
Vet did say they didn't think he had much more in him. Not sure how they can tell..
He's a pain when it comes to food so we're having to be careful with him, he eats everything he can get to. (recently he stole 2/3 of a loaf of bread and ate the whole thing. Not even a crumb left)
Not the best photo but this was the beginning of April - him and his best friend.
