Hi,

Cassie is about 5 years old, Staffie X, weight stable at about 22Kg.

For the last couple of months she has been refusing food in the morning every few days and then goes outside and eats grass.
The grass works through her system and by the evening, she's eating normally again.
She's thrown up the evening before a grass day once - mainly undigested kibble.
Food is unchanged as JWB Adult Lamb & Rice + Chappie wet topper + biscuit type treats. Occasional Pigs Ear or Dentastick, no rawhide.
She tends to swallow more than I would expect after food and after waking up - sort of like an acid reflux swallowing if you know what I mean.
She's never been a great water drinker so daily food is moistened - beyond that she only drinks a couple of times a day.
I tried bland food and Pro-Kolin the first couple of times - didn't seem to make any difference.

Otherwise, she is active & happy. Not a great food scavenger when out and about.

Any clues to discuss with the Vet - it's time for a visit as the current grass day is only 4 days after the last.

Possibly poor food building up in her stomach, causes irritation and blockage - switch to raw if you can and I suspect she will improve massively

Stop all treats for at least 8 weeks. Whilst a diet change may be a good move she should get a vet check for a proper assessment. I can't make and actually no one can make a diagnosis unless they are a vet who has seen an animal but it maybe worth checking for Pancreatitis. Keep the food low fat in meantime.

Thanks both,

That gives me something to talk to the Vet about.
A change of diet would be an option although, as a veggie household, I'd want to try and avoid raw. (Never say never though!)

Treats could be a good call - whilst her main diet has been reduced so her weight is stable, she probably gets rather too many doggy treats, occasional cheese and also Ginger Nuts! She meets a few treat givers out on walks as well - dog biscuits or sprats usually.

Dogs aren't and shouldn't be vegan.

Want to be vegan? don't have a dog.

OP is not feeding a vegan diet.

I presume Jasandjules is asking if your dog has normal stools.

Yep, a work colleague feeds her dog raw and she is vegan. She tried other diets but her dog just didn't do well on them so decided to do raw. He is much better than he was now. She doesn't like it though.

Yep, as others have pointed out, dog is not veggie but I am.

Stools are usually regular and OK - maybe a bit soft, except on grass days when they are grassy!

(P.S. Veggie does not equal Vegan!)

Yep, got that smile. I guess the point made is if a vegan can do it then a vegetarian could as well thumbup

Update to my OP - too many treats appears to have been the main issue.

Core food remains the same.
Human biscuits removed from the treat list.
Doggy treats reduced and are now mainly grain free except for those she tarts when out walking.

Thanks for all the advice everyone - enjoy the bank holiday sun. cool
