Poor 14 1/2 year old Carrie the rescue Tibetan was attacked the other day by a Collie.

It got hold of her by the snout, I pulled them apart she had a small cut in her mouth and a puncture wound on the snout , she was shocked by OK it seemed. I was booked in for her annual check up yesterday, the vet found a big cut in the other side of her gum, and a split in her third eyelid. The vet wanted to operate and remove a tooth and sew up the gum today, but has just rung and said her wee sample indicates high protein levels and kidney failure, and they want to do another test so won't operate.

Feeling pretty upset at the moment, waiting for the vet to ring me back. She was a rescue, and has had 4 good years with us. She is a faithful old thing.

Firstly i hope the news is good, its a worry isnt it?

Our rescue staffy has got Horners syndrome and had tests after his third eyelid was a little closed but thankfully after blood tests and eye tests that can check for cancer and other issues he is fine...

The day he was left at the vet last week seemed to go on forever..

again i hope all turns out well...

Cheers vet just phoned again, levels are only a little out on one kidney and the other is fine. They are operating now. Thank goodness.

Oh good! They will have her in iv fluids which will help support her kidneys during the ga and speed her recovery. They will also know not to give her eg Metacam for pain ref so she may get Tramadol instead.

What an awful thing to have happened to her, the one positive is knowing about her kidneys and maybe taking measures to support them.

Hope she recovers quickly from her op!

Yes she is back, thanks for all the good wishes very much appreciated.

Second test showed her kidneys working, one not quite so well but they are not worried. She had the op, 4 teeth out 3 of which where tiny ones. Had her teeth descaled, in the op for an hour. Thorough job. Insurance won't cover dental, luckily the person who owns the other dog covered the operation cost, £550 luckily they are in high paying jobs.

She was howling like a cat in the surgery, came home ate a load of chicken and was pretty perky. Of course being 14 means she sleeps a lot, and is asleep right now.

Back for a check up in a week, but the outcome seems good. Thanks again everyone.

Really pleased to hear you have Carrie home & she's doing well.

We (my parents) have a Tibetan Terrier, she's 9 & has also been in for a few teeth out in the last couple of years. Her jaw doesn't line up properly so it can cause issues with teeth apparently.

It must have been scary what happened to Carrie with the other Dog. There's not much to Tibetan Terriers so I imagine they can be damaged easily.

Pic of Millie attached!
