Ok, so around 4pm today, there was a cat in the front garden meowing at me, which decided to make its way in as I opened the door.

Didn't mind as was getting out of the cold, gave it some Salmon and let it walk around. An hour later sent it out, which it did reluctantly.

Half an hour later again appeared again when I went out and back in. Stayed another hour oh and kid came home and enjoyed seeing new visitor. It mainly walked around exploring.

But then gave it a can of tuna in a bowl in the back garden, of which it ate about a half and then shoosshed it back out of front door.

Now it's made its way to the back garden again (terraced so not straight round) assuming looking for rest of tuna which was chucked, and meowing to get in.

Looks well fed, has a collar and a bell, tail is a bit dirty but just weather I guess. Don't want to let it in for the night purely as don't have a litter tray and don't want that salmon and tuna to be coming out the other end!!, and also have a goldfish in a bowl that don't want to be eaten.

In short we don't want the cat (son was bored after a 30 mins of it)! No I am not getting 'chosen' by it smile so don't anyone start all that.

We have a kids play house outside so tried to direct it in there but no joy, meowing at me currently from outside (dont speak cat but it is short high pitched continuous meows) . I suspect it's the quality of food that it has been given, the salmon was my lunch and was steamed wild Atlantic, that is making it hang around over whatever dry boring stuff it is getting.

I want to ignore it till it goes to its own home, but also don't want to find it cold and dead in the morning, which shouldn't do seeing as it's a mature adult cat rather than an injured kitten and it's not shivering as such. But would welcome a second opinion. It will belong to a neighbour, but not one I have seen before (most around here are black/brown/black&white cats and not seen an all white one).

Pic of said cat:

Stopped with meows. Moved away from doors to a sheltered area out of sight. Hopefully next stage is walking away!

If you're that concerned about the cat then go door to door and ask? Or post it to your town Facebook page?

Don't use Facebook and don't fancy a door to door at this time and weather. If it hangs around ill put up a poster or knock around with a photo incase its recognised. It is mainly the muddy tail that made me ask, as cats tend to keep clean.

Anyway, read the cats protection page, and it says cold is fine and that as long as it has shelter its ok, and to provide with water and food. It has eaten, and garden has a few sheltered areas along with a kids playhouse it can get into easily, so just put a bowl of water near it and see how it goes. It doesn't look old or sick so should hopefully get bored and go off to where it came.

My daughters cat went missing, turns out it decided to change owners, and someone took it in.

Daughter took it back home, few weeks later it went back to the other home so she let the new owner to keep it.

Maybe the cat has chosen you! Worth having checked if it's chipped to find, the, owner.

Stop feeding it and welcoming it in and it will go home.

Cats like fish and warmth. You've basically been flirting with it and now it can't work out why you are giving it the cold shoulder. Give it long enough and it'll get the message.

Looks hairy enough so shouldn't freeze to death, if it does then it's not a very bright cat. If it keeps showing up then you can always find out if it's chipped.

If it's not and it persists whack it in a box, drive off with it a good distance and release to the wild! If it turns up again (persistent bugger) then whack it in a bag, few bricks and lob it in the canal. By the way from the start of this paragraph I'm joking ok! biggrin

It'll probably fk off home once the snow has thawed, keep it warm for a few days and chuck some food down for it, humanity.

That looks like a Ragdoll cat to me. An expensive pedigree puss.

They're not the most 'streetwise' of cats - all I know are house cats.

I would definitely get some posters up, as I bet it's lost.

The easiest way is to get someone you know to check Facebook and/or put a post on their.

Even create an account on a disposable email address to make the post.

Will be easier than putting posters out and more effective.

It spent a few hours last night meowing, switching between a pitiful one to a more how dare you angry one hehe must be a female. Then later had disappeared.

I called for it at night to be sure, and again this morning and no sign so guess it's found its way home.

MC - nope didn't seem streetwise at all, was way too trusting coming into a strange (to it!) home and being happy despite no exit points once doors closed. In view of what you said, if spot again will take in and seek owner, but suspect it would have hung around for the morning if didn't have a destination.

You could take it to a vets to see if it is microchipped, I'd be surprised if it isn't.

Otherwise don't let it in your house again and definitely don't feed it. Rookie mistake when you don't want a cat hanging around!!

Posters are an option if needed.

Another who thinks it's a ragdoll. Dirty tail because they're useless at grooming themselves. If you spot it again - grab it & take it to your vets for a chip read. Chances are it's lost. They really aren't a clever breed at all. My O/H's one sits in the middle of the road if it ever gets out.

That appears to be a Birman (does it have white mittens?) and a lilac point at that. If so, it is pedigree cat which likely cost its owners several hundred pounds so I'd expect it to be chipped.

Had red eyes and a lovely face. Interesting to know that it's tail was not dirty looking at the pic.

Not been back and not seen it around so assume it has gone home, if not then it is NorthDave's fault!! Could have had a valuable cat for free if I hadn't ignored it and it refused to live at its owner smile

Our local cats protection folk will happy send someone over with a chip reader - they do a very good lost and found service.

Red eyes are unusual with Birmans. They are pretty smart cats compared to Ragdolls, which are for want of a better word are dumb as ****.

I wouldn't feed a healthy looking cat, especially good stuff, which is tantamount to an offer to adopt in cat language. It probably found its way home, after exploring the snow.
