I've just built a 400L raised garden pond, added a filter and filled with rain water. I'm planning on adding around 6 goldfish along with plants etc but wondered if the fish can be added now with it being so cold?

I'm hoping to add 2 goldfish now to kickstart the filter and the other 4 in a month or two.

Can I add the 2 fish now or is it too cold? Also, Would I need to feed them now or wait until spring?

Thanks smile

Personally I’d wait.....you’ll find that most garden centres aren’t selling outdoor fish this time of year so I assume there’s a reason (though it might be an entirely commercial one thinking about it)

Definitely don’t feed until it gets warmer. Cold blooded animals can die if they eat food they then can’t digest due to lack of metabolism which is largely driven by available heat

Picked up 2 small Shubunkins, 1 Sarasa comet and a common goldfish. Garden centre was happy to sell them but said not to feed until it warms up.

Currently happily swimming around in their new home smile
