Hi Folks

A bit of a strange one, I’ve have recently got a new dog, a cockapoo puppy, I bought him after a bit of research about dog allergies, I had a Bichon-Frise for the past 13 years, which I bought to avoid allergy issues, unfortunately with the new puppy I’m suffering from itchy nose, runny eyes, not terrible, but I can definitely notice it, has anyone experienced anything similar? Any tips? Did it pass after the dog had stopped biting/shed puppy coat.

Hi

Despite all the claims, not all of these supposed 'hypoallergenic' crosses are such, as you've discovered. Their coat can take after either of the parent dogs.

I have no experience of it myself, but I understand that a product called PetAlCleanse can help.

Good luck.

I know Cockapoos all look different (we have one) but are you sure that’s what it is? Hair looks very short and straight

Lovely looking chap smile but cross breeds as stated can take their coat from either parent, going for a specific hypoallergenic breed would have been a much safer bet and not gambling on having to give up the little fella if it doesn't work out for your allergies frown

Definitely a cockapoo, I seen both parents and their pedigree/KC papers.

I’ve given him a bath tonight to remove the smell from the puppy pen he was in with the rest of the litter, hopefully this might help a bit, he smelled a bit of wee-wee

Nice looking pup

Was mum the cocker of the alleged union?

Could she have been got at by another spaniel?

I seen the rest of the litter and picked him, 2 curly, 2 wavy, and him, I’m hoping when he sheds his puppy coat it will lower the dander levels, my bichon has straight hair for the 1st few months.

5 week update, allergy has definitely improved, rocky has settled in well, he still looks like a spaniel, curly ears and totally straight coat

The petal cleanse that moorx recommended worked, plus I think my body is adjusting......but jez I forgot how’s lively a puppy can be.

Glad to hear it's improved - thanks for updating.

He's a lovely pup but he definitely has the 'naughty spots' like my Max (springer/saluki cross).

Petalcleanse seems to work well. I suggest it a lot.

He is very cute lovely markings but I will be honest I do struggle to see him as a cockerpoo. If you brought him in to me to ask I would say he was a sprocker.

In all seriousness I would change his description on his microchip because everyone expects cockerpoo to have at least a wavy coat and it could cause confusion if you needed it.

It doesn't matter how he looks otherwise if he is as adorable in behaviour as looks this is the important thing but be prepared for everyone to query it just as we have done smile

He’s definitely cockapoo, he is in there with his siblings.

I guess it’s been a learning process, I tried really hard to find a good breeder, with all the relevant paperwork and

As long as he was well cared for etc that's what counts, I am sure it is all legit, crossbreeds are unpredictable in how they will look which is why they aren't pure breeds.

There are some very unscrupulous breeders and some of the ways they trick us are shocking and you would never believe it if you hadn't seen the evidence, luckily these extremes of con are not common.

You have a happy healthy pup that's what counts. You could always check in on their website etc to see what they are breeding now etc if you were curious!!
