I always do my two terriers - a Welsh and a Lakeland.
I used to strip them but they hate it so now do them with the scissors and a Wahl electric timmer. Though I say it myself I can do a good job, better than all of the parlours we have used in previous years and thedogs trust me so there's never an issue.
The Lakie is a fiesty little bugger so I tend to do her is a series of sessions over a couple of days. The Welsh is laid back so I do him in a single session.
Always bath them first or else your scissors wont last 5 minutes - I use Mikki coat scissors and smaller ones with blunt tips for ears and face.
I then use a stripping knife after a few days to remove the loose hairs and allow the wire to come through.
I actually enjoy it, really satisfying!

No way would I do mine - should see the scratches on our groomers arms after she’s done him!
£50 every 6 weeks or so.
What the hell kind of dog is it that needs a haircut every 6 weeks ? and at that price ?£50 every 6 weeks or so.
He doesn’t *need* to be done every 6 weeks, but it grows unbelievably quick and we like it shorter than the norm.
It could really go to 8 weeks I guess.
Twice a year he gets a complete shave - like a sheep - so that lasts quite some time until the next tidy up.
She also does his nails, baths him and plucks the insides of his ears.
Cost wise, not many people know how to cut them correctly and the one who does (within a reasonable distance) runs a grooming school and has also won groomer of the year (yes indeed...such an award exists..) several times.
I assume I’ve paying more because of that!

£35 every 5 to 6 weeks for our mini Schnauzer, he gets pretty matted after that even though we brush him regular, so keep on top of it, wouldn't dare do it my self for fear of messing up and him loosing his beard and brows, gets a full going over, nails ears plucked etc, looks great for a couple of weeks .
