Our King Charles has just been been diagnosed with diabetes. We've just got him back from the vet and have practiced giving him the injections, he needs two a day and his meal times are a pretty strict 12 hours apart now, it's certainly going to change our routines with him.
From my point of view, the hardest thing I think will not be feeding him a bit of food when hes on his walk or just randomly 'for being good'. Are there any treats out there that you can give dogs with diabetes in between meal times ? The vet could only offer vegetables as an option rolleyes
Any other advice from others who have diabetic dogs at all ?

Our West Highland terrier was diagnosed with diabetes approx. 12months ago. It took a while to get the balance right of insulin dose and food. But eventually we got it right. While you are trying to get the dose right you do need to be consistent with feeding. After you've got that balance then you can give them the odd little treat but it can't be much.

The hardest thing for us initially was actually giving the injections, as she used to run away and you had to hold her down. But now she comes to you and sits because she knows she is getting fed.

Thanks, we've done a couple of injections now ourselves. He goes back to the vets this Friday for what they hope will be the final round of 'diagnosis' with regards getting his dosage correct, we've been lucky as that means he'll have only been in a couple of times, the vet told us it can take 4 or 5 times to get it correct.
