Our lurcher will run like a mad thing if you let him out, but thats because he is half greyhound, as long he has several walks a day he doesn't tear around the house unless you deliberately wind him up. He isn't allowed upstairs. The only time he has behaved as you describe if after falling into the canal on a cold day, presumably to warm up and maybe due shake of the adrenaline.

You need a young Cocker Spaniel to experience the wall of death syndrome. And the hammer round the garden like a mental bumper car, then going into the house for the wall of death mode, hoping that she misses all the dog poop that I hadn't managed to clear up Now she is a bit more sensible I have managed to decorate the lounge and repair the circle in the garden. Just a shame I don't have it on film
