Took the dogs out for a quick walk in the grounds here at work yesterday (fun in the snow for them)

Came across this track -

My welly for size comparison:

Now, I know we have muntjack deer running around but this looked far too big. Spacing was approximately 1m but followed one line so I don’t think it’s 4 legged.

Thoughts?

Rabbit. Or hare. Rear feet give longer impressions in the snow, front feet have a much smaller impression.

My first thought, 2 legged but the prints look cloven so I'm going with Satan.

Seriously - it's a squirrel.

The larger, outer pair of marks are the rear feet, the smaller, inner pair are the front.

Rabbits don't have such a long 'stride', and hares tend to put one front paw in front of the other. Both are much broader prints, too.

Where did you see them, OP? That could be another main clue: hares are notably rare in central London, for example (only slightly more frequently encountered than honey badgers and kangaroo, in fact).

It is London so I think that hare, honey badger and probably Satan are out.

Surprised there’s no tail indent if it’s squirrel.

They hold them up in the air/along their backs a lot of the time

100% Snow-werewolf. Similar to a yeti but more doggy.

All the same it's quite a feat climbing a tree with those hanging between your legs. On a human scale it would be like have a foot long scrotum with two melons inside. Bet he's a hit with the ladies though wink
