I live alone in a first floor flat and I’m considering adopting/rehoming a cat from a charity. I work long 12 hour shifts so the cat would be alone for long periods but also be days where I’m here all the time to balance.

Am I being selfish getting a cat when I’m not going to be here for long periods or is it better than a cat living in an adoption centre?

It probably won’t even notice.

We have 2 cats, one house and one outdoor. The outdoor cat we only see when she wants feeding, and the indoor one we see when she wakes up. I think she sleeps 23.5 hours a day.

Yes, this. Double the good deed, they keep each other company, and you don’t worry.

cats sleep for 18 hours a day. so 12 hours is nothing. just make sure they have toys and stuff to play with as well as a window to watch out of .

Thirded.

I've got two Siamese sisters so they are fine on their own, more than happy to leave them with a fresh litter tray and some food if I go away for a weekend.

I've had cats in the past who'd go to bits if you left them for a day.

Take your time and find the right cats, girls tend to get on better with each other than boys / mixed.

Will these be house cats?
