So Banabas has been in the wars lately, those who follow the cat thread will have seen he broke his leg and had two operations and all seemed well.

6 weeks later and his fur is growing back nicely but the weekend he’s started grooming at where he seems to all be healed and made a bald sore patch. He had a something sticky in his fur which wouldn’t brush out so don’t know if he’s just groomed that bit and pulled the sticky fur out or if somethings irritating him.

He is about 6 months old now and we haven’t flead him yet so don’t know if that’s worth doing first but he’s a house cat so hasn’t been outside or had any contact with other cats.

Did a bit of Googling and washed it a few times with salt water and a cotton wall ball and it doesn’t look as raw now but he’s still licking away at it.

Is it worth a trip to the vets which means trying to get a day of work or will it sort itself out?

Cats can over-groom due to stress and/or boredom, but I would get the cat seen to rule out any physical cause.

It could also be diet causing skin sensitivity.

Yes, take him to the vet. One of ours was doing this, right where his tail meets his back, above his hind legs. Turned out his anal glands were blocked and the vet had to express them. It could be a sign of some sort of physical pain or discomfort as easily as of some sort of distress.
