Only I want one and this one won't get in the van no matter how much food I lay out hehe

Seriously though, any ideas anyone?

Might be a Maine coon?

They can grow to enormous size.

What do you mean, might be - that's the same cat, photoshopped onto a snowy background, surely? biggrin

Wow, good likeness.

The one I photographed above is quite petite and about 5 years old and female. I thought Maine Coon's were very big comparatively.

Still, you've given me a pointer - thanks!

Ha yes it looks that way. You wouldn't want to have to try and find a tick in that lot, mind you it would have to be a pretty determined tick.

We had a regular moggy that looked a bit like a Maine coon (and like the one you found) but that wasn't actually a Maine coon. Nearly as hairy though.

Most likely Maine Coon, or cross, or alternatively, Norwegian Forest Cat. No I haven't made that up! We had a Maine, identical to the one in the second pic & the breeder we got it from, also bred Norwegians & I couldn't tell them apart. Ours wasn't a large one, but could easily stand upright with his front paws resting on a kitchen countertop, watching his lunch being served. They can be yoooge, but a friend has a Maine cross, (female) which is regular moggy sized.

I think that colour is "silver blue". The fur is ok to manage. Yes it's incredibly thick & long, but so fine, the knots brush out easily. Beautiful animals - very smart, apparently trainable (we never tried), very regal & calm: I never tired of watching ours lope down the garden towards the house - it's like watching some prehistoric wildcat heading towards you.

I’d have said Norwegian Forrest cat. They’re big cats though. I know a woman who breeds them - unbelievably hairy but quite dog like in character.

I'd have said Norwegian Forest cat or Siberian cat due to the comparatively small size.

Siberians are supposed to be good for allergy sufferers - despite the long hair - as they have less of a protein in their saliva which triggers allergies in humans.

I can confirm the 'very dog like' comment, 1 of the 2 that lived here with me used to bring me sticks as gifts and would happily curl up by my feet and sleep, he was also a big cat who when stood on his back legs would swipe stuff off the worktop!

This is our Maine Coone, That looks longer haired to me. Ours is not so keen on grooming.

Outstanding post from 2P. OP should get a Maine Coon.

The cat looks identical, even down to the black fur on the shoulder flank!

Definately a Norwegian Forest cat in the OP - we have a Maine Coon and a NFC, the Maine Coon has a more lion-like face.

Agree about the NFC - very trainable, very dog-like in many respects and a very pretty looking cat. Like all pedigrees both will cost you an arm and leg in vets bills over the years but our experience is that the NFC is a little less fragile than the Maine Coon

Not pedigree at all. This is one of two similar cats a friend owned. we had a similar one back in 1990, she had kittens and one was just like the Felix cat.

This one isn't full pedigree NFC but has the size/likeness traits of one, also a complete nutter and had to be banned from upstairs after launching himself from the top of my wardrobe at 3am and landing directly on top of my gentlemans area! not funny when you are fast asleep and the cat weighs in at around 7-8kg
Also had to regularly trim the hair around his neck as it grew a lot during the winter and would annoy him and get in the way when he ate
