I was hoping someone could advise me on whether it iseems worth making a vet visit or not. We have a family of 4 gerbils that are 1.5yrs old. About 6weeks ago we noticed a small scratch on the head of one of them. This healed up nicely but the fur didn't grow back. Today we have noticed a lump on her head in the same place. There is also a strange looking patch of fur on her side, I tried to have a feel but not sure if there is a lump there or not. The lump on her head seems mobile not fixed, and she didn't seem too bothered about me touching it (though we were distracting her with seeds!) I managed to get photos of it. Is it worth a vets visit or should we let nature take it's course?

Sorry I'm not much of a small furry expert, but the lump overlying the original scratch is possibly a small abscess....might burst but might not. Not sure what the baldy patch might be, if gerbil is happy and well then watch and see or if off colour then go see vitnery.

A vet check wouldn't hurt for peace of mind but if it remains like this then maybe leave but any sign of inflammation, spread/growth other lesions etc get seen sooner rather than later. More can be done for small flurries the quicker they get seen.

Thanks for the replies. My husband has had her out again to have another look. He thinks that it isn't a lump it is just where fur is growing back unevenly. I'm not convinced. She is still acting perfectly normally, eating, drinking, tunnelling and munching cardboard tubes!, and her sister's are treating her the same. We'll give her a couple more days then I'll take them all to the vet's for a check up, I need to take the cat for her vaccination anyway. I pray she is ok, she is my daughter's favourite and she wouldn't cope well with bad news. Thanks again.
