Our cat has gone blind in one eye, it's been a gradual thing over the last few years.
The vets opinion was leave it until it causes him a problem, that time has come.
Any vets on here care to advise on cost of such an operation?

Ask your vet who will be doing the operation surely?!
Few hundred quid I'd say.

Our Greek rescue has half an eye, to sow his eyelid shut was in the £400 region. Not sure if this shall be your vets plan mind.

Cost can vary due to area you are and some vets care levels will mean cost can vary (cheaper doesn't necessarily mean poor care/ treatment but may mean more basic), I don't think that is too high but I would expect that to include pre anaesthetic bloods, I/v fluids and post op care inc a poss overnight stay and post op checks (if no extra treatment needed)

Removing an eye is a tricky procedure as bleeding is a risk, so cost is taking into account the skill involved in the procedure. Do you trust your vet? I think they have obviously not rushed into doing it which is reassuring. If you know and trust your vet and they know your cat then this should count for quite a bit.

I assume you have asked your vet how this quote has been achieved, they should be able to print off a breakdown

Get a hard up friend of family member take him to the RSPCA or do it yourself and tell them you cannot afford the treatment. Their vets are far more pragmatic as far as I know. £800 is a lot of money. My Patterjack terrier cost me £100 to buy and £1700 in the first 6 months due to swallowing my little lads dummy teat- twice within 4 weeks. That was an ouch and a half.

I am based in the NW and around £600 would be around the mark. However prices vary around the country and from practice to practice.
