As it says in the thread title.

She's 19 years old and we've had her for 18 of them. Standard issue rescue moggie. She's always been healthy although over the last year she's been drinking a lot of water. The vet has done blood tests and remarked on how good the results were for a cat of her age so isn't worried about it, he says she'll just wee a lot more often.

And this is where the problems start. She's just not using the litter tray for this, she's sitting next to it and going on the floor. Seems she only wants to use the litter tray for poos. She's always been good in this respect, just the last few months that this has started.

Fortunately the litter tray is in the conservatory so it's on laminate flooring and easy to mop up but it's a pain in the arse to have to deal with the Great Lakes every morning.

Thoughts?

Our cat started weeing in odd places, she almost always poo'd in the litter tray but wee'd elsewhere.

She was 21 and also was becoming a bit smelly, I took her to the vet and he said, given her age she almost certainly had arthritis (unable to clean herself) and the weeing in odd places was likely to be dementia (she did other odd things too such as sitting and strong at a wall for ages).

Due to her age and issues, we had her PTS.

One tray for poop, one beside it for pee?

Worth a punt. Thanks.

Although she'll probably poop in both and continue to pee on the floor.

21 is a damned good age for a cat

ours was just short of 20. Like yours he was suffering with arthritis and was having difficulty grooming.

Puppy pads around the tray. These will soak up any wee. Though I'm surprised the vet hasn't ruled out a UTI.

Update on this.

We've tried the two trays thing and it works! Thanks for the suggestion!

We have exactly the same issue with our two 18yr old Persians. Will try the two trays. Currently we're using a bin bag and pads (Concrete utility room floor) but it's still a pain....
