We are firmly a dog family, but a friend has gone on an extended holiday and we have inherited/adopted/stolen her gecko.

Its around 10 years old, has all the gear (viv a bit old and dirty) and a nice fat tail.

She handled him regularly and we have all held him, but as of yet i havent plucked up the courage to pick him up myself.

Looking at buying a new viv, he is currently on sand and i think he should be on lizard carpet? He eats crickets which are currently living in another cage in the garage.

Anything else we should be aware of? Reading lots online but appears to be lots of differing opinions!

She has done well to get him to 10 and if he is in good health etc I would be reluctant to change anything in case it stresses him (though I confess I don't know how likely that is!)

I would just be tempted to carry on doing what his previous owner did assuming he seems happy in his set up. Have you officially had him signed over to you or is she likely to expect him back when home? If the latter that would be another reason not to make too many changes.

Can you contact her to find out as much about him and what she did for him as possible. Keeping his life as he is used to (unless he was in awful conditions) is probably best.
