About 4 weeks ago we got Bramble a friend - Poppy, a Netherland Dwarf:

I guess it's obvious who became the boss...

At the time we got her, I noticed a small hard lump on her back, but didn't think much of it.

This evening I had a closer look, and it actually appers to be a red sore and something like an old wound:

Any ideas what it is?

We've not officially adopted her yet - she was on trial from the rescue centre to see if they got on. I assumed the centre gave all pets for adoption a health check. She seems fine despite this.

Thanks!

Could be a number of things so really it needs a vet assessment. The adoption people should cover the cost.

They would have had a health ck but this could have been easily missed and 4 weeks is a long time for something to flare up.

How long did you have the first rabbit before introducing the second and did it take long for them to bond?

We had our first rabbit two years and just adopted a lionhead from the RSPCA as a companion. Right now the garden is annexed, each have their own hutch and they meet each other at the fence separating their spaces and lie next to each other. Every now and then we let them meet each other and they get on okay until one tries to sniff the others bum at which point they start squaring up to each other.

About a week. We put one in the cage, the other in the run where the cage is. We opened the cage a couple of times a day and let them be together. Occasionally Bramble would nip Poppy if she got close. We went in one day after they'd calmed down a bit, and found Poppy licking Brambles head. After that, they've been fine.

We've now taken the cage off the tray again, so they are always together in a fairly large indoor run.

BTW I tried to find the lump on Poppy after we got back from holiday last week, but couldn't find any sign of it, apart from a slight discolouration of the skin. I think it may have been a scab from a previous nip.

Glad yours is okay and nothing serious.

Are yours male / female or same sex? Ours have just bonded... and by bonded I mean he's just humped her and now they're lying next to each other.
