Discussion
Hi all,
We've been let down at the last minute by a friend who was going to take our dog for a week in two weeks time.
I'm still working hard to see if we can leave her with someone we trust, however, this is looking less and less likely.
So I'm now searching kennels. This is far from ideal and the thought of leaving her in a kennel is killing me... so I'm asking for advice on what we need to look for in a kennel, what questions we need to ask, and anything else that would signal 'run away'.
Thanks in advance.

I live near lancaster and heading to Manchester airport.
Dog sitter... is that someone living in my house?
I've found one which looks good and I'll certainly be visiting before committing... not sure if i'm allowed to link but here it is... I'll remove it if necessary.

Yes, someone living in your house, I think most bring own bed linen.
Advantages are dog is own home, can have their normal routine.
Added security of not leaving house unoccupied, & I would guess you could negotiate "extras" like plant watering?
Hmmm...I'll have a think about that. Good idea in principle.Advantages are dog is own home, can have their normal routine.

I would do some research before employing one,ie get somebody with "CRB" or whatever it's called these days. (more important would be references.
If I had the time I'd look after your dog.
(I promise not to to organise a rave in you garden)

Nowhere near you, but we use this place for daycare http://www.whitecottagedogs.co.uk/location.html
Our dog is spoiled, but I wouldn't use anywhere that actually used kennels or cages. Most places should let you take your dog there for an hour or so to see if they like it and give you chance to talk to the owners and have a look round.

Try Paws & Claws near Preston. I left my cats there twice and they were fantastic! I live near lancaster and heading to Manchester airport.

I'm a dog/pet sitter and would certainly recommend you try and find a local one - I'm not local to you and booked for your dates
Quickest way is to google 'dog/pet sitters' in your local area. Usual rate is £30/night and the sitter should provide all their own bedding/food/drinks etc. Ask your pet-owning neighbours if they can recommend someone.
Local paper or facebook page should have adverts for pet boarding if you can't get a house sitter. Barking Mad is a good idea to use for a boarding service - they are a franchise business but have host families throughout the UK.
Some kennels are far better serviced than others, so look at dog hotels too

Have used this place in the past.

A very professional outfit. Our dogs had no issues while staying there. Its a few miles north of Longridge.
They used to get booked up pretty quickly though, but you never know.
