An interesting roof inspection today, where an all seeing Seagull became homicidal whenever I stepped on the roof.

Very aggressive, and eventually had to withdraw to safety.

I assume there is a nest up there somewhere. Anyone know how long they nest for?

A few weeks, I work in a steelworks and there is loads of nests on the roof. Babies are running around everywhere and walking from the carpark to where I work is like running across no man's land.

4 to 6 weeks maybe? Most juveniles are flying by now. Herring gulls are a status red species and of course protected, as are their nests. Just stay clear until they are gone.

This is the bugger... Bear in mind I have a wall behind me at this point... As a progressed down the roof the bugger would fly in at head height...

It's just going through the motions. I'd be more concerned if it was at eye gouging range.

I have every confidence from it's behaviour if I go where it can fly that's what it will do. I suspect the nest is on the otherside of a cabin. I need to get to the other side of the cabin. It ain't gonna like it....

Looking at that video, an overhead smash should sort your issues.

Roofing you say? Need help with a specification? tongue out

We've done one before near the coast and encountered a group of gulls. They're bloody intimidating up close, bigger than you anticipate!

Wear a hard hat, you'll be fine. My parents have dive bombing seagulls nest every year on their roof, no injuries to humans or animals alike yet and this has been over 20yrs.

They can injure, usually the top of the had, hence the hard hat advice but avoid the nest and youngster.

They are protected so you cannot injure/ disturb best etc. You could phone the police for their wildlife officer in your area it the council.

That video delivers!

Hard hat,s safety glasses, gloves, thick coat, carry a tennis bat as a defence

And a bag or two of freshly cooked hot chips to distract it. Depending how much profit is in the job, you could upgrade to fish and chips, or poverty spec down to bread and butter sandwiches ofcourse.
