In the past few years we have taken Eurotunnel and driven through France to the Costa Blanca region (1,300 miles each way), but this year we decided to take Brittany ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao to reduce the driving time.

I have booked a dog friendly cabin on Brittany Ferries Cap Finistère and have read up as much as possible regarding taking a dog on board - has anyone done this and have any 'pointers' or guidance.

We went last year Plymouth to Santander, and it was ok...just, but that was due to having to use the on board kennels, full of howling hounds for 18hours, easy to take dog out to exercise area, but I would definitely advise the Bilbao route due to dogs being allowed in cabin. Almost everyone on board was happy with dogs being around, esp the other dog owners. Make sure you have plenty of poo-bags, and at least one spare lead. Also check the vaccination and worming protocols very carefully, more important on the way back. When we landed, temperatures got up to 45C so make sure you have the A/C recharged before you go.

Thanks for the reply.

We managed to book one of the (I think Cap Finistere has 8) dog friendly cabins.
