Squirrels digging up the lawn
Discussion
I've found dozens of empty nut shells by the holes. Are these nuts they buried last season or are they just randomly sniffing them out. I assume the nut didn't get buried naturally. Right mess they're making.
Im wondering if I feed them nuts via a feeder, would that put them off digging up the lawn. I wouldn't even consider doing anything to harm them. UI don't mind having them around, would just prefer not to ruin the lawn.
TIA

Yes they bury nuts/food in lawns mostly in Autumn but also at other times if there is an excess.
Contrary to popular opinion they don't have brilliant memories, they just work on sheer numbers, and then relocate them by smell.
You'll see them scrape out a little hole then pat it down again.
Then cover the whole lawn with their nose to the ground till they find one.

That's exactly what the little buggars (assume several) are doing I realise a feeder could result in the excess being buried CheersContrary to popular opinion they don't have brilliant memories, they just work on sheer numbers, and then relocate them by smell.

I'll do it anyway and see what happens
