My mongrel dog worth twice as much as my house
Discussion
House insurance on Tesco's for my £550k bungalow. less than £250 per year
Pet insurance on Tesco for my mongrel dog rescued from a pound
So when is a mongrel worth £1.87 on WeBuyAnyDog.com more expensive to insure than a something worth half a million quid?
Something is well out of kilter here, and I am looking at you vets driving your Mclaren's sucking onto people emotions.....
Here endeth the lesson.

How many Pistonheaders on here own McClarens or similar?
Do they get such a hard time for being able to afford them?? Not that I have ever seen a vet drive a McClaren to work!
Sadly vet s have been extremely selfish and embraced modern technology including MRI'S, Digital radiography, cat scanners, in house laboratory equipment etc etc etc. This tends to cost a huge amount of money.

I would also suggest that the pet insurance quote is quite high.
We had better cover with Pet Plan (generally considered expensive) for two pedigree dogs for around the same annual cost.
It is quite high though the excess is much lower than Pet Plan's (which I think is usually £100 now) We had better cover with Pet Plan (generally considered expensive) for two pedigree dogs for around the same annual cost.

Really! You actually think that... I earn an ok wage, I'm salaried. However when you start working out an hourly rate it's bloody awful. I average around 50 hours a week, up to 80-90 if I do the weekend. Quite often I work for less that minimum wage. I could leave and work for a drug company etc and earn a better wage, however I enjoy helping animals and owners. Here endeth the lesson.
I don't see you moaning at GPs who earn £75k plus for a 5 day week.
I would love to know how much people think vets earn. Also at the end of the day it's a business not a charity. Veterinary is one of the worst business for the % of profit for turnover. Drugs are expensive, equipment is expensive and you need a lot of staff to ensure the safety to your animals.
There are very few rich vets.
Cheers, Tom
Slightly different thought, I had a couple of quotes for insuring my rottie when he was just a year, and despite being a vet, I was quoted £79 pcm.....so I didn't take that up and since have paid the £2k bills at the specialists myself. Insurance can be great value or not, it's all risk based, with an element of luck as to what hits you and your pet.
As for the McLaren......maybe next year?

Both of ours are insured (at the moment anyway) with Tesco, one 8 years old and one about 13. Both required treatment last year that resulted in claims, older one for about £2k for spinal issues, younger one maxed out the cover (£4k) and then some for cancer treatment. Premiums have gone from £970 last year to just over £1400 at renewal. Time for some new quotes I think but not getting my hopes up for anything much better, especially with a low excess.

It would be really interesting to hear what people think vets earn, and also how much people think that they should earn...
go on then, have a guess? bear in mind there are big differences in "types" of vets, and how long you have been a vet, hours worked, employed or self employed etc etcif you have a guess, set your parameters with your guess
also try and pop in a guess what docs and dentists make
