I'm getting my Wife a bird box with a camera in for Christmas. Is there anything I can do regarding siting it etc which will make it attractive for a bird to nest in?
We're luck to live in a detached house in the country side so there's plenty of birds around. My initial plan to is to site it on the end of the the end of the house which has no doors or windows, east facing, sheltered by next door and about 10' off the ground.

What birds is the box designed for? Has it a hole or open front? Some birds like a bit of cover so may not like your intended positioning.

If it's a bluetit box, in our experience they aren't too fussy so choose a location that's best for the camera wiring.

Also check the focus point now while you can adjust it without disturbing occupants. Don't be surprised if a female starts roosting in the box overnight from about now onwards.

We have 3 tit boxes in the garden in various positions.

They usually use the one on the house though, it`s sited about 2 meters high and out of direct sunlight.

Cheers for that.
Between then and now, I'd searched on google and come up with similar advice.
By chance, it looks like my plans are right smile
