We recently lost one of our Dobermanns at a very young age (2.5 Years) under pretty horrible circumstances....late / incorrect diagnosis, against the odds managed to get better then died due to a PEG feeding tube causing Septic Peritonitis on the day she has been given the all clear.

We weren't sure what to do about getting another dog as company for our male, but his loud sighs, sulking and putting toys where her bed used to be were the thing that made us decide that we have to get another dog!!

As they are used for sport, I checked the usual European kennels for a dog from working lines and found a stunning female that looked like a show ring dog but worked and had won numerous titles in the junior classes but as an adult, wasn't winning anything so was no longer deemed any good. I also found a pup from working lines that looked stunning and had great potential.

While having a mull over these two dogs, we had a phone call from Dobermann Rescue (my partner had previously contacted them) and were told that they'd picked up a small emaciated female Dobermann who somebody had cut one of its ears off and it had a broken leg and desperately needs a home to go to as she just can't be put in to kennels.

It sounded like a lot to take on so we immediately made our decision and on Saturday evening took delivery of a small emaciated Dobermann with a missing ear and a broken leg smile

Getting a rescue felt like the right thing to do so that's what we did! Apart from the updates we'd had from when they found her (in Serbia) and through her various stops on the way all saying she was lovely, we didn't really know what to expect.

When she arrived, we greeted her, let her have a sniff around the house and then took her in to the garden so she could meet our male. He ignored her for a little bit and then came over for a sniff. He gets on with females so knew it would be unlikely that we'd have problems between them.

We're all completely smitten with her!!! Such a beautiful little dog who just wants cuddles all the time. I don't think I've met a more affectionate dog!

She's younger than we expected her to be. We'll hopefully narrow it down a bit with some of the information we do have, but we didn't expect her to have puppy teeth! Dobes do seem to get their adult teeth quite late, but hopefully we can piece all the information together and have a better guess.

She needs feeding up and has some trips to the vets looming, but hopefully she can be fixed up and not let her leg hinder her too much. I'll post pics later today!

Lovely.

I Love Dobes but the wife isn't a fan and I'm not sure she'd be able to impose herself enough to have one.

What a beautiful girl, and she already looks happy and relaxed, despite her background. What a testament to dogs' forgiving and trusting natures.

I am sure that with love and care from you and your partner and the company of your other dog, she will soon be a picture of health and happiness. Good luck and well done for taking her on.

Congratulations and well done. A lot of people say some rescue dogs have an extra special bond and love for their owners because they've never really known love and affection before, only pain and suffering.

She can look forward to a great life now.

Sorry to hear the tragic story of your previous girl, that must have been heartbreaking to go through, well done for taking on a rescue she looks quite a character!
