Was just reading the Eurotunnel website about dog travel, and it says this:

Eurotunnel said:
Tapeworm treatment
(Dogs only)
Your dog must be treated against tapeworm before travelling to the UK.

Treatment must be administered by a vet not less than 24 hours (1 day) and no more than 120 hours (5 days) before the dog's scheduled arrival time in the UK. Treatment date and time must be recorded by the vet on the pet passport or official third country veterinary certificate.
Does this mean that every time we go abroad we have to see a vet in France before we come back? Even on a 2-day visit?

The worming treatment and passport stamp must be done between 24 & 120 hrs of traveling back to the UK.

So you could get a wormer done & passport stamped @ a UK vet prior to going, as long as you return before 5 days has elapsed. If you go over this time you'll be turned away to find a vet and have a 24hr delay.

FWIW, for those looking at this, check what breeds the French allow you to take, they (predictably) have very bureaucratic and draconian ideas of what constitutes a pet dog, at odd with both the English and German interpretations.

Pet dog = pet dog, need pet passport, and will need tapeworm treatment b4 return to uk. Dead simple this year for us, just make sure passport is spot on and you take note of all commercial advice on sites such as eurotunnel.

So if you wanted to take a day trip to France from the UK, you could have the dog(s) tapewormed by your own vet in the UK before you left, and that would be valid for you to come back in with them?

Yes, no stipulation of which country the treatment is administered in. As long as it's done between 24 & 120 hours before entering the UK and the pet passport is correctly completed.

On a short trip it saves having to fanny around while away.
