Is it just me or has there been an explosion in these slimy horrors ?

My normal dog walk, well one section of it is crawling with them, hundreds of the revolting fkers, small brown ones and seven inch long black mothers, the odd mutant weird yellow one, with a few snails which are far less offensive but still a bit crunchy underfoot.

Tempted to buy a thing of pellets and carpet bomb them, I wouldnt as not sure of the implications and they arent in my garden, but I feel like it, the floor is moving with them, why is this, never remember seeing this many ?

I remember finding as a slug as a kid was quite a thing, go and get the salt or, if it was bonfire night coming up, a Standard banger lit next to one was very satisfying, many a time went home covered in smoking Slug entrails biggrin

Massive spiders here. I've had to throw out four in the last week or so.
Can't remember the last time I saw any as big as these ones.

Use the wrong ones, and dog owners will not appreciate slug pellets being found in a public place:

Metaldehyde based slug pellets are among the most dangerous and common poisonings we see in dogs. Even small amounts of pellets can cause significant poisoning and severe signs can occur within an hour of consumption.

Yeah, I am a dog owner, it was a thought but not something I would do.

Case in point, found a sizeable Slug cruising across the kitchen floor at work today.

I dont ever remember seeing as many as are about these days !

Spiders dont really bother me, however, the ridiculous noises the missus makes when she finds one do, its like she is mortally wounded, women, you really need to be less pathetic about Spiders, they are generally harmless, if us chaps all die out whole swathes of the country would become uninhabitable due to a rumour of a "Really big, hairy spider" in that vicinity.

There was a news article on it earlier in the year, upshot is that because we had a mild winter there wasn't enough frost to kill off some of the dormant slugs / snails + their eggs hence the population explosion this year. PITA at our allotment, they've eaten all sorts of stuff.

To be honest, I stood on a Slug in the garage and remember thinking "I really hope that is just Dog st" biggrin

The number I have seen recently is far in excess of any Dog st I see, unlike back in the eighties it is very rare to see a free range dog egg on the pavement, well, round our way it is.

Milder winters is your answer, same reason why ticks are growing in abundance.

When I was living at home and was young free and simple I left my shoes on the back step and one got in and I ended up taking it for a pint and clubbing one night with j4cko and the lads

Worst part was peeling my sock off it was lodged under the arch of my foot all night

Copper is an impenetrable barrier for the slimy gets too.

Impractical for most situations, agreed but wrapsome around any planters/pots and they won't get in.

In this case, sympathies to the Slug biggrin

And it was about the last time he came out for a pint !

Nowadays they are hung in trees in a black bag.

Why do dog owners bother doing that if they aren't going to put the s**t in the bin.

Our garden is teeming with the little feckers.

My method of controlling them is to go out at dusk with a torch, collect the snails in a bag and relocate them into nearby woodland.

Slugs get snipped in half with a pair of scissors. Not a nice way to go, admittedly, but at least it's quick. By the morning, various birds will have eaten the bodies.
