Canada Geese; Angel Wing... what to do?
Discussion
Every year the same two parents come back to our pond to rear a new family.
For the first time ever, just one of the offspring has angel wing rendering it unable to fly. The family are taking off for practice flights and seeing this one being left each time is a sorry sight. It cries and calls and just looks disturbed.
Has anyone any knowledge of this; Google presents 'expert' opinions that differ entirely. Do we leave it and hope it gets used to being alone... or find a sanctuary? I always thought they were birds that liked companionship?

I'd never heard of this until reading your post. Your profile says you're in Manchester? You could try giving these a call; http://www.gwbh.org.uk/ 01204 884086.

Thanks! I will call them.I keep poultry and waterfowl. One of my Sebastopol Geese has slipped wing (aka Angel wing) it's not a problem as they're non flight birds. It can be cause by too much protein in their diet, but you're not going to be able to control that. However with the Canda Goose it needs to be fixed when young as if it reaches adulthood there's nothing to be done. If you can catch the bird tape it's wind in to position - use masking tape - but you'll need to remove this after a week or less. Not sure If you may be too late already. Otherwise a sanctuary might be the only place it has chance of survival :-( I'd offer it a home but you're a bit too far from me. Good luck.

Thank you all for the advice; the place in Bury is going to take it; so massive relief as it'll have a new family there, with the same condition; and will have a happy life.
Well done. It's nice to know there are people out there like you who take an interest and are prepared to help Glad it has an opportunity to live on.
