Neighbour's Cat's
Discussion
We rent the basement part on the back of a huge 5 bed house that is level with the back garden so our land lady is our neighbour. Been living here just over a year now and we get on pretty well with the land lady and her young kids. They have two cats that hang around the garden (our area) again no problem with this as they leave you alone. But on two occasions in the last 6 months the landlady and her family upstairs have gone away on holiday and I think left the cats without enough food.
The first time the cat was coming to our front door scratching the windows and generally making a load of cat noise, also it was impossible for us to leave the house without the cat running towards us whenever the door would open. So reluctantly and I say this because I don't want it to think we are it's owners and get used to getting food from us so we bought some cat food and fed it once. I got my girlfriend to message the land lady to ask her if she wanted us to feed the cats and explain how it was behaving, she messaged back saying no it should be ok as there is food inside the house they have access to through a cat flap......so we stopped no problem.
This time........We went away on 28th June for a week to Turkey, got back late evening on the 6th July and left the early the following morning to go to Sweden camping for a week, we got back from Sweden late evening on the 13th July again the land lady and her family still weren't home. So again the cat has been going ape st in fact the two of them have. The one that normally comes is black and the other one is very shy and would rather run away than interect but even he's been coming to us. So we bought a box of dry cat food and have been feeding them since we got back from Sweden.
My big issue is now that we're feeding them every day and I'm worried they're going to keep coming for food even when the owners are back. Are we right to do this? I mean I fking hate cats but I won't stand by when there's clearly something wrong with the animal and it seems that not having food upstairs is the problem.

This is exactly what I've said to the missus, we're bang in the middle of our summer holidays here and it's not uncommon for people to go away for 4 weeks. Thing is do I get the missus to message her like last time I don't know and it wouldn't even be a problem if she'd left a not and a big bag of dry food outside our door asking us to feed them as we're here.
Really st by them to be fair!

Just chuck a bucket of water over the cats when they come pestering, they'll soon get the message and go looking for food elsewhere. Cats are natural hunters so if the owner hasn't left them sufficient food they'll start catching the odd rodent to eat etc.
Not your problem is it so I wouldn't worry.

That's it now the little fkers can starve.
Nah, they won't. So long as they can get out of their flat they'll find something to eat - some other poor cat's dinner, or a mouse or an old kebab or something. They were clever enough to realise you're a soft touch, and mugged you. The cats probably get all the attention they want and need when their owners are in. When they are not their they are probably quite happy to bother somebody else. Presumably there is an automatic feeder or somebody who pops round to feed them. If that is the case you feeding them is doing you or them no good. My cats are always fed by family or friend when we are away.
