Hi All, over the last few years at this time of year we have been getting more and more little bats flying around , especialy round the street lamp outside my house opposite my bedroom. Guessing due to insects being attracted to the light. They are very small and very acrobatic and a delight to watch. I was wondering how would one go about finding the species ? this is suburban leeds and not in the sticks, also i seem to recall you can get gadgets that let you hear the sonar and echo location clicks. I would love to be able to hear as well as watch and know the species. they are so fast its impossible to get a pic.

I expect if you contact your local bat enthusiasts group, they would be more than happy to bring their gadgets and see what's there.

Very likely to be pipistrelle bats.

We see them at dusk every night of the summer. Its so cool to have bats in the garden.

We live just outside Leeds and see Bats most summers. They seem to fly a route around the house and back again. Because of their size and the way they fly they are fascinating to watch.

Thanks for the replies and the Link too. I may well put a few bat boxes up and encourage them. Amazing little creatures.
