Not sure when our Golden Retriever started doing big boy wees, as my daughter called them.

But he was two the other day and occasionally doesn't cock his leg. Mainly if he's having a pee on the lawn, which is rare as he doesn't like to go except on walks. Outside he doesn't cock his leg if the scent marking is also on short flat grass, otherwise it's height matters and he pees as high up the wall or wherever as he can get.

Some dogs who have been neutered before completing puberty never cock their legs though.

haha, I wouldn't worry about it, perhaps it's just a funny characteristic that the dog has picked up from it's ownerlaugh

Probably start cocking his leg when he is 12-18 mths.. For scent marking.

If it makes you feel better, one of my girls cocks her leg and can pee 4.5 bricks up a wall........

My dog is 9 and has never cocked his legs. Doesn't bother me in the slightest! And he definitely isn't gay... Trust me on that 😮

My dog just turned 8months and only started cocking his leg a couple of months ago.

He still just squats when he seems to be feeking lazy.

Regardless, unless he's mounting other DOGS, I wouldn't worry wink

I'm sure my husky bh is on the turn she's started cocking her leg instead if squatting.
It's hilarious watching her, she'll shimmy up to a stationary urine recipient on her right, and she'll cock the opposite leg to pee the other way!!It cracks me up!

My British Bulldog Marley squats to pee. Mine like yours is almost certainly a gay...

Marley lets the neighbours dog lick his cock. It's the only time he cocks his leg so Buster the staffy can get right in there.

I love the mutt but the cock licking is bit rough to be honest.

We keep them separated.

Both our male dogs were neutered at around 6 months old. The Lab had started lifting his leg by then, he has never stopped and does it bloody EVERYWHERE. We can't take him into pet shops or he'll do it there, and we have to watch him very carefully at the vets or he'll do it. He's 5 years old now.

The other dog hadn't started doing it yet, and now at 2 years old still pees like a girl.

Barry is most definitely not gay; he cocks his leg and also, occasionally likes a golden shower when Daisy has a pee.

Dogs are gross.

Yes they are gross, Charley waits behind Lola for her to finish peeing, and sometimes not even then. Two dogs, one cup.

My Dad's chocolate lab used to do this as a puppy. Now, 15 yrs later, I'm proud to say he pisses like a real dog. Think he learnt the error of his ways after a year or so. Chocolate labs, they say, are the slowest learners.

Ironically, our Jack Russell bh cocks her leg like a pro, and has done from puppyhood!

Dogs are mental.

My dog may not be gay but is definitely bi-sexual. He starts out having a 'big boy wee' then as his little leg gets tired he just stands there and pees. He also likes mounting dogs, licking dogs 'bits' and falls in love on a daily basis... with boy or girl dogs, no difference to him it seems! smile His current 'girlfriend' is a GSD called 'Skyla' who is three times his size (he's a 5 year old Basset...ish)and he adores her. His current 'boyfriend' is an Old English sheepdog called Charlie who is five times his size and very much a boy. It is a close run thing which of these two he loves more!

My old Cavalier always squatted and only lifted his leg once and that is when he had his knackers off.

Poppy the Lhasa cross used to try and hump the hell out of him when she was in season.
