Have had my JRT insured with Sainsbury's on a lifetime policy since he was a pup, he turned 8 last month. Sainsbury's renewal quote has finally reached the "no thanks" level, trying to gouge me for £40 a month. Oscar has never had any medical issues and thus I've never claimed on the policy, although I've probably paid out 2-3k in premiums over the years.
Since he has no pre-existing conditions, it seems sensible to move his policy now before I'm trapped. Many of the policies available are of the £2k limit, £100 excess then 20% of the fee level. Seems silly to pay £300+ for a years cover then pay £500 + anything over £2k for a claim. As such, I'm looking for a provider that just has a flat excess, with sensible claim limits.
Does anyone have any experience of https://quote.uispet.co.uk/? Any other recommendations?

I've got my Doberman insured with Vetsmedipets.
Dobes tend to be expensive to insure but this company had clear, consice policies.
They came highly recommended with a reputation to pay up when needed.
I will say I haven't claimed anything though.

Have a look at Animal Friends too -

Never had any issues and write specialist policies for dogs eight or over with no claim limit.

Currently have 2 dogs and 2 cats insured with pet plan- all on lifetime maximum policies. My sister is an insurance handler for a large vet group in NW London.
Lou.
2 years 7 months
Pedigree
Miniature English Bull Terrier
£92 per month
Duncan.
10 months
Rescue, non pedigree
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
£26 per month
2 x cats European short haired movies
6 years and 7 years old
£26 for both.
It's a PITA but having seen some of the costs from specialists over the years, it is well worth it.

I'm looking for a good policy now. I've been advised PDSA?
I just wish I'd done it 2 weeks ago before my little Patterjack, Tinker, swallowed one of my kids dummy teat and blocked her small intestine!! Twice in two weeks!!! She's in now recovering after two ops in 10 days!! £1500 in total for both!! Ouch!!
Do not delay. Insure today.

Picking up a new member of the family on Thursday, so looking into insurance - how or why can the Animals Friends be £5 pm cheaper for their top level of cover over Petplans lower level cover?
Where's the catch?
Insurance (all types) is a funny game. It all tends to be a little "circular". Even in the Motor Trade we will see spells of insurance for clients from different companies. You'll get three months when you see a lot of Tesco's for example, and then they will go quiet and you will get loads of cover notes from LV for awhile, and so on..Where's the catch?
I assume that it's to do with incoming premiums vs outgoing claims.
I have nothing but praise for Animal Friends - have used them to cover all our dogs (we rescue Great Danes) for years now.
And they can come with some mighty bills!
As a vet I would insure my dog with pet plan lifetime cover. Seem to be one of the fairest and pay out well. My Mum has her terrier insured with them too and has never had a problems. They are not the cheapest but from my experience you pay for what you get. Also I am not in any way employed etc by pet plan. Just my experiences
