With it being a new tank its probably a water problem, possibly high ammonia or nitrate, I notice the other fish has similar marks on its scales too.
Have you got any form of water test kit?

Thanks for the reply.

It could be, I'll see if I can get a test kit tomorrow.

We had one a while ago but seem to have misplaced it.

The fish are swimming happily around at the moment using the whole tank so it seems okay now.. smile

I'm wondering if the white slime sort of coating it had on was actually something todo with the baby making as it almost seems to be clearing off now
