We've just taken on 2 8 month olds from Wood Green and want to insure them. They came with 4 weeks free from Petplan and they've quoted £28 a month for lifetime cover with a 4k per condition/year limit and I know they deal direct with the vets etc and cover dental and fight injuries with other cats.
Thing is, doig a quick comparison I can det a similar level of cover from a number of other providers (L&G, Animal friends, NCI, Purely Pets) for about £10 a month cheaper, which over the course of a few years is quite a saving.

However, does anyone have any experience of using any of these providers? Are petplan the best and hence well worth the extra premium or am I better off with another company?

I can't comment price wise but with regards handling large claims and customer service I cannot recommend Agria highly enough.

My dog had several cancerous tumours removed and there was never any quibble over us going to the specialist and paying several thousand instead of the local vet for several hundred.

In the last 2-3 years of his life his bills racked up to over ten thousand pounds and there was never an issue with bills being paid and when it was an emergency there was never any fuss about things being pre-approved etc. They were always very helpful, friendly and compassionate when speaking to them as well which helps a great deal when your best friend is in a bad way.

Make sure that if you go for insurance you get a lifetime policy, not one that only covers you for a condition once and is then excluded at you next renewall.

My Dog is covered by Vedsmedicover. They came highly recommended and I'm as yet to have a problem.

By all accounts they are known to pay when needed too.

Petplan are often recommended as they do life cover, many others only cover 12 months of a condition

i.e.

Animal gets diabetes, under PP they are covered for the life of that condition, many others after 12 months you are on your own

We are going through our first claim with them at the moment so will see how good they are at paying in the next week

I know a lot of people don't like them but we're E&L.

We used them on the previous three cats and had no problem with them paying out lifetime cover when one of them became diabetic.
