First kitten (probably)
Discussion
Got an appointment to view a kitten at the local cats protection on Monday (whichever one is left from a litter of 4, 3 viewings before us), can't believe whatever it looks like the kids won't immediately fall in love with it, so as long as it doesn't attack us will go for it.
My wife and I both had cats as children, but as the responsible one now want to check I do as much as we can to ease the transition.
If we go for it, we don't pick it up for a couple of weeks, browsing old threads someone mentioned leaving clothing with our smell with the kitten? I asked the shelter but the girl manning the phone didn't know, is it worth trying to do?
We have a cat flap into the utility, need to get litter tray and litter, bed, food (recommendations?) scratching post? Anything else?

I've bought a new bed for every cat we've had and each and every one of them turned up their noses and picked their own sleeping arrangements
For litter I'd keep to the same brand as the rescue at least to start with.
Our cats have a mix of dry and wet food. The dry kibble is Canagan and helps to keep their teeth clean and is available to them all the time. Then at breakfast and supper they get Lilly's kitchen which they all seem to really like. Our cats like a variety and tend to get bored if fed the same food every day.
Don't forgot toys. Kittens love to chase things and having some ribbon on a stick that they can chase, wears them out and in our case stops Ariel from using my legs as a scratching post!
Enjoy the new member of your family.

Whatever happened to encouraging imagination?
Whatever happened to sweeping assumptions, oh nothing. She came up with many names from ridiculous to funny and regular etc. but currently likes the one she has an association with, quite normal for young children I believe.
