Jemima - Our new Lurcher Pup.
Discussion
My Wife and I have had a rescue dog for six and a half years. Pepper, a mongrel and we think a Staffie x something (Dutch Shepard or maybe something else).
We've wanted to get another dog for a while, mainly to act as a companion and play mate for her.
At first we decided to get another rescue dog, however the attempts didn't go so well: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=154...
So then we decided on a Puppy. Given adult dogs treat them differently, she could get use it and come to know it before she ever felt it as a threat.
Enter Jemima:
Her Father is a whippet, and the mother a Collie x Saluki.
We read up on all the ways to introduce a pup into the house, and it has gone much better than expected. After some unsurety from Pepper, she's starting to take to the Pup. She's also helping to train the pup, with the right about of growls when she's out of line. The pup responds by doing all the submissive stuff a pup should.
On Sunday they where chasing each round the garden and playing together. Then in the afternoon I found them both relaxing on the sofa.
After a lot of stress and worry that it was the right thing to do, and worrying that they'd both be safe, its great to see them getting on.
