It seems to be generally accepted that apes, dolphins, pigs etc are clever but in my experience, octopuses(or should that be octopi?)are pretty smart but the smartest of all is the crow.
Is there an accepted league table of animal IQ or are the types of intelligence too diverse to compare?

My mums two Staffies.

They get free food, lodgings, health care, choice of comfy sofas to sit on, all the fuss and affection they can handle and wood burning stove to sit in front of.

In exchange for this incredibly hard life they do a bit less than fk all! They don't even bark when somebody knocks at the door, too much like hard work.

They must be pretty smart to land a gig like that laugh

No the word is Greek so it would be Octopdes the "i" on the end only comes from latin words, as it is a greek word it is incorrect to say Octopi

Personally having owned one I'd say an African Grey, clever little bd.

Magpies are generally regarded as pretty bright. In terms of relative brain size they are in the same general ballpark as monkeys and dolphins.

Elephants must be strong candidates. They have complex social structures in which they co-operate and play with one another. They display altruism, not just toward other elephants, but also to other animals, eg protecting injured humans. They appear to experience emotions such as affection and they grieve for their dead relatives.

I reckon that puts them ahead of at least 50% of the human population of my local sink estate.

I disagree with pigs being smart, if you want to be high on food chain, don't taste so good!

Not the smartest dog. A really smart dog would have rebranded itself as something other than the chav scum dog of choice smile

One of them failed at being a chav hound. We think his previous owners bought him hoping he would be vicious but due to a clerical/spelling error he turned out a bit viscous...

Parrots are up there, and obviously higher orders of apes . Parrots have surprising abilities to reason, not just learn speech.

Not a fair comparison because we don't have elephants living on sink estates. I shall apply for a research grant forthwith.
