I would say they have been singed.
Re his nose if it looks superficial (can be hard to tell in a pic) then it will probably be ok.
Ck it daily to see it's healing, if he is rubbing it etc he'll need a buster collar. If it seems to spread or if you are just not happy with it then getting it checked would be sensible.
My own cat cut her nose (no idea how!!) but I just left it as she was not bothered by it, then bathed the scab off after a few days, it was fine.
