There's about 450 in at the moment - Suffolks first, then mules and Scotch halfbreds, then Kerrys.

Had rack of lamb last night lick

Ah! The ideal person to ask. A relation won't eat lamb because they are cute. So when does a lamb become a sheep and at what age are lambs/sheep slaughtered?

As a rule of thumb (unless you have access to view their teeth wink ) at twelve months old it ceases to be 'lamb', after that it is a hogget (and the price drops hugely frown so they tend to be sent to market before then) and thereafter mutton (ewes or wethers) The farm here is registered organic so slower grown and 'fat lambs' run right up to 12 months to get weight on (last year's fat lambs are still on the pasture) some places will send them at six months (depends on what time of year you lamb, what breed, whether inside or out, whether they are grass fed etc)

PS They cease to be cute v rapidly and turn into hooligans after three months of age wink
