i have 9 currently. we did have 11 but we lost 2 last year.

turtles are a lot harder to deal with than people think - hence so many are dumped in ponds. they live for a long time and are unbelievably smelly if kept indoors in a tank.

they can grow to dinner plate size - a couple of my female yellow bellied sliders are 12" in shell length.

they live for the warmer months in an 800 gallon filtered pond in the garden, then go into a heated 300 gallon pond in the garage for the colder months. they cannot survive the british climate over the winter.

i have a mixture of yellow bellies, map's and one red ear'd slider of varying sizes. mine are all "rescued" - my sister works closely with several animal charities and i tend to get the call to re-home them.

having said that, they are great fun in the summer with their sun bathing and diving, and each one has its own personality. just a lot of hard work.

if you are planning on keeping them indoors - dont bother, its no fun when you have to clean them out. theres no smell quite like a dirty turtle tank.

I know a S.Yorkshire supplier of African Dwarf Frogs, Axolotyls and Turtles, if that helps. Also they do tropical fish, they aren't that smelly tbh...
