Hi,
I would like any information on the alapaha bulldogs, I've googled it obviously but can't seem to find out too much. I lost my bull terrier in September and I still miss him and don't want to acquire another as he was a unique dog. So any info on health problems or breed characteristics would help in my dilemma.

I've never heard of these dogs before. Just Googled them and I think they look great. Must be rare in the UK though?

We fostered an AmBull for a few months, really lovely dog despite having been rehomed twice at just over a year old.

The main negative we found was peoples prejudice against any large dogs, especially Bull breeds.

In over 30yrs of dog ownership, mainly spaniels but a GSD amongst others, he was the soppiest of the lot! Apparently they are fiercely loyal & protective if need be & being so powerful it would take a fool to cross one!

Sadly they are a status dog & most forums are littered with chavs cooping big dogs up in council flats frown

Find a good one & I think you'll be really happy with your choice.

I do think they have similar temperaments to the American bulldog. I'm in contact with a few breeders waiting for my new Bessie mate.

Meet Roxy, our Alalapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. We got her as a rescue two years ago when she was around six months old. She had had five owners including the original breeder. The first was a family who as said above thought of them as trophy dogs and thought they could make millions breeding her. The cxxxx ended up trying to strangle her and kicked her down stairs trying to control her.
Two years of hard work later she is calming down and has a lovely temperament. She can be nervous and therefore snappy at other dogs but this is only since the next door neighbours X racing greyhound stuck it's head through the fence and took a chunk out of her side resulting in eight stitches.
Most Alapahas are smaller. She is 39kg and is the upper end of their breed size.
Strict and confident training is a must. We use click/reward methods with great results. They are very powerful dogs and I wouldn't like to see one out of control. I haven't heard of particular breed health problems except be careful of in breeding due to their relative rarity.
I could waffle about her/them all night but any questions fire away.
We know a rescue centre in dartford who often gets these for re homing but I guess that's quite a way from you?

This is my 21month Alapaha. He's great very laid back and friendly with dogs and people. Totally different dog to my English bull terrier I had for 13 years. He stands around 21" and weighs around 35kg. He's by no means the biggest Alapaha and some can weigh around 100lbs when fully grown. I think my boy will weigh no more than 80lbs possibly 85lbs once fully grown.
If you need some more details just drop me a pm.

He's a handsome chap!
I think ours is quite exceptional in character probably due to her earlier upbringing. Equally I know another that lives near me that is the softest most submissive dog I have seen that drops to the floor and rolls over at every opportunity.
