Is this cage layout ok for 2 degus, the internal dimensions are 440mm deep, 550mm wide and 1240mm high. I have made a range of shelves and platforms for the degus to move and jump on. The cage is 100% metal and there are no wire floors. A full 12inch metal wheel has been ordered. None of the platforms are solid in place yet as I'm experimenting with the layout. Is this OK in your opinion?

Looks fine to me, ours were in something very similar.

And the first funny remark regarding rotation of the cages comes in at: 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Looks pretty good, we have something very similar for our chinchillas. We removed the metal wire levels as one of them damaged a foot pretty much losing most of a back foot. We made full width shelves and screwed through the bars using large penny washers on the outside to hold it tight. Been fine for the chins and they do bounce around a bit, though not quite as hectic as degus i'd bet!

my daughter has just bought the same cage, but we need to get some wooden shelves like yours as it came with some metal gridded ones.
How many degus do you have in yours? We're hoping to see some on Sunday at a rescue centre and thinking of getting 3.

Also any advice you have as we've never had them before! Daughter has done quite a bit of reading up so hopefully aware of what she's letting herself in for!!

I've never heard of a Degu so looked it up on Goggle. It's a rat. Why can't you say it's a rat?
